Like darkroom magic, our group developed after a dozen college age photography students were exposed to the light of inspiration from master photographer Shedrich Williames, summer of 1986. We learned to Talk to the Sun in an outdoor workshop led by Shedrich. Our gear included B/W film cameras, tripods, and light meters. We learned to previsualize a composition, to see a range of light and shadow before clicking the shutter. After the workshop we gathered for a critique and conversation with Shedrich. With great enthusiasm we decided to continue to meet, discuss our photography, and put together a group show. Thirty-five years later we are like family. We have photo-savvy kids who have grown up in our creative midst. Monthly meetings and occasional group photo outings add to the richness of our shared experience and personal vision as artists.

All of the members of Inner Light are exhibited photographers, and the group shows together frequently.

“what makes this diversely profiled group of photographers so fascinating (is) a range of appreciation of the silvery medium and a common search by its individual members for genuine expression.”
